Big Day for Ken (Knuxie)!

As I travel off to Canterbury, Kent (UK) this afternoon for the first read-through and rehearsal of his Euphonium Concerto, in the sparkling new wind band setting, with the Christ Church Canterbury University Wind Orchestra.

Having done the marathon Euphonium/Piano version, I'm really excited about this score, particularly as it reunites me with Prof. Sonia Blandford. We both played in the same school brass band together, and have not met for some 30 or more years!

The concerto premiere will be in Folkestone, Kent on January 28th. at the 13th.century church of St. Eanswythe;

Is Ken (Knuxie) performing his own composition on euph? He really impresses me. Wish I could write like that.
The churches in England are so magnificent. With all those arches in the ceiling, the accoustics have to be live but most helpful to a performer. Is that correct?

This one looks OK, but in my experience most old churches are a nightmare to play in for brass players (especially in combination with non-brass instruments) Even the tiniest sound fills the hall, and a healthy mf drowns out everybody else. A lot of the bigger churches have so much reverb that everything turns into a blur past the first few rows of seats....
