I agree that Norton does really suck, because with the marketing it lulls you into a false sense of security because most people don't keep the live update aspect of it going, and because it is not the be-all end-all it lets on to be. But recently Norton did intercept a couple of really nasties that could have really fouled up the office computer. So I will be renewing the subscription, in addition to some other coordinating protections.

DON'T USE NORTON ANTI-VIRUS!!!! Sorry about the caps, I just wanted to get my point across. After a year or so of successful use, my Norton Internet Security and Anti-Virus bundle is starting to tear my computer apart. Worst part is that it is almost impossible to get off of your computer. It's al AVG for me from now on!

This is so true. Having been a volunteer moderator for McAfee for many years, NAV was one of the hardest to completely clean off your PC. It's a big resource hog too.tubafatness wrote:...it (NAV) is almost impossible to get off of your computer.
I used to be a McAfee fan, but even 'VirusScan' has become too much to bare on my old Win-98 machine. The last version of McAfee that I liked was VS7—but now their DATs (virus definitions) have become so large that it really bogs down the older OS's.
I've been using "Avast! Professional" (by Alwil software) for the past year and am very satisfied. It's FREE too! Automatic updates are painless. It's rated 'Advanced' in detecting Viruses & Trojans in the past two AV tests.

Thanks for the link. It's always good to survey what else is out there periodically so you don't get lulled into false security then have a crash.
How is Norton "tearing your computer up" or slowing it down? I've had absolutely no problems with Norton (knock on wood, plastic or otherwise) so I am not versed on the bad press and thankfully have not had any negative experiences. What's going on? I know there are some conflicts between programs that may both have firewalls that hang up the works and won't let anything through, but I am not having any issues.
