The saga continues. I've been posting an occasional image on our web site of the Martin tuba conversion I started back in the early 90s and am now finally getting off my butt and completing. I just shipped it to the platers, having glass bead blasted it prior to doing so. If you are interested, there is a little eye-candy for you gear freeks with a "jones" for BATs. Let me know your thoughts.

Was that project commissioned by its owner, or are you looking to sell (or keep) that horn once its completed?

Amazing looking horn! I wish I could afford to buy one for our infant grandson, whose first name is Martin, and influence him to the good as to his future choice of instrument. Maybe one day. At least he isn't named Nirschl or Hirsbrunner!

That's a beauty. I took my Martin BAT to rehearsal on Thursday because I plan to use it for our upcoming outdoor "park" concerts. When I hit the low F at the end of the first piece, about half the band turned around to see where that sound came from. (No, it wasn't to complain, they just weren't used to feeling the earth shake like that) It's got a presence that I haven't found in any other BAT, including a Holton and the many 2Xjs that I have owned and played.

I would love to have a 4 valve front action version of this, mine has 3 top valves, but after looking at your story I think that's not happening. I do like the 24" recording bell for outdoors.

WOW!! Dan you have done a marvelous job on that tuba. I have seen pictures of your other projects and everytime I am amazed. This Martin tuba is a thing of beauty and pride. I bet the hardest thing for you to do....will be to give it back to the owner.

This Martin turned out being a very nice CC. But the pair of BBbs that I have play great too.

The CC was a commission, so it never was for sale. I probably would have had a tough time parting with it, because it's a very sweet playing horn.

looks like some pretty snazzy engraving, couldya post an upclose picture of it ???

What does it say on the engraving? "Martin", "The Martin", "Martin Handcraft", or something else? The engraving looks way more elaborate than most Martins, I was thinking it might be a custom job.
