That totally sucks man. Please let us know when it turns up. I'm sure it will even in a city your size. Jeez that is heartbreaking.

Gabe posted this on the Trombone List, and I'm posting it on TubaEuph.

We all know how our horn is an extension of ourselves--so much more than just a metal machine. It's painful to lose something of such personal nature, let alone its expense.

Gail Williams, former horn player of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, recently had her Geyer horn stolen in Iowa or Nebraska.

Jobey, you now have hundreds of brass enthusiasts looking out for your PCK.

This was one of numerous casualties in a massive hotel garage break-in...I'm expecting it to come up at a pawn shop. Thanks again everyone...jobey

Jobey, That's what I was going to suggest. The most likely place for anyone to move it quickly would be a pawn shop or music store. If I were you, I'd call them all and offer a reward to whoever comes across it. Good luck!!!

Yes, Tubizzle is showing his colors, but he's absolutely correct. I always tell my students about mistakes I've made in my career so they will not do the same. PLEASE DON'T ANY OF YOU EVER LEAVE YOUR HORN IN YOUR CAR!!! I've done it thousands of times in the past, but not with this horn. Wasn't a planned move...just got side-tracked and thought, "Aww, it will be fine." ...

Don't forget to check with repair shops too. Same thing happened here in SoCal to a buddy, and another buddy who knew the horn actually ended up spying it in a repair shop. The repairman felt totally bad about having unwittingly purchased a hot horn, but the two of them worked it out.

I sympathize with Jobey as I've left my tuba in my car on numerous occasions (thankfully never had a problem). In many cases it's difficult to avoid leaving your tuba in your car, especially if you are a professional tuba player gigging in many places and your tuba is going with you everywhere you go. If you do leave your tuba in your car there are ways to help minimize the risk of your car being broken into. You're always better off if your tuba is in a car trunk or somehow not visible (like an SUV with a cover that goes over the rear luggage area). Also, don't leave ANYTHING visible in your car - CD's, electronics of any kind, chargers, spare change, food/drinks, maps, sheet music, music stands, even garbage. If all of your car seats and floors are visibly bare, a thief is less likely to break in. If there is a lot of junk visable in your car a thief might take a chance that hidden under the junk are some goodies. I've been in situations where I'm putting my tuba in the trunk of my parked car and then walking somewhere while I leave the car parked. In those situations I always re-park the car to another garage or street in case someone has watched me put the tuba in the trunk. These things don't guarantee anything, but they might help minimize the risk of a car breakin.

Not only was that an insensitive remark, but actual WORKING tubists need vehicles they can depend on, so the odds are that he didn't post a sign that said "valuable propery outside", either. Nor was he mugged, so things could be a lot worse... but both this and you bite the big one, anyway!

As much as I hate to even think this--notify the scrap metal dealers too. Dumb thieves don't know nothing about no music and would just as well see a tuba sold for its brass content as take chances with a pawnshop.

Keep an eye out on Craigslist, also.

OMG yeah, and I mean how could you leave a car in the parking lot, I mean that must be worth more than $11,000, for that matter why do you even leave the house in the morning, a plane could fall out of the sky and land on you, you must be asking for trouble. I spend the whole day in the closet with the lights out, with my fingers in my ears, long underwear on hat, gloves, but no zippers because they are sharp and might hurt me one day, who needs gigs anyhow, it's so safe in here.
