Last evening I attended a concert performed by the Auburn Symphony Orchestra, otherwise known as The Pacific Northwest Ballet Orchestra, Seattle's **other** pro orchestra. On the program were the Meistersinger overture, Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto, and the Mahler Fifth. Other than attending an all-Stravinsky ballet evening last season, I'd never heard this orchestra before. What a fabulous group!
Of particular interest to us tubists, Ryan Schultz, the orchestra's principal tubist was in fine form. He played the Wagner on the PT-3; the Mahler on the PT-6P. Great solo work, and a solid foundation for an excellent brass section.
I would be remiss not to mention Caitlin Kelly, the 18 year old young woman who gave a fine interpretation of the Mendelssohn.
