cincinnati conservatory

I'm looking at the Cincinnati conservatory for graduate study. Does anyone have any opinions on the school/teacher (Tim Northcutt)?

Fabulous player/teacher-great guy. Anyone who hears the Dayton Philharmonic will get a good dose of him this coming season. Beautiful city despite what the news services would have you believe!!!

Tim Northcut is a great tubist and an all around great person. A good friend of mine studies with him at CCM and has nothing but the highest praise. He's worked with my students for the past two years and watching him work and teach is a very cool thing for an educator. Studying with him would definitely not be a bad choice.

CCM is also a beautiful school, with amazing facilities. It's nice to go into a practice room that is not crawling with bugs and is falling apart and the heat/ air doesn't work.
Mr. Northcut sounds good on his solo disc.

I don't know Tim personally, but he seems to be getting pretty good results out of his students. If you are looking to play professionally, then studying with a teacher who has students winning jobs is always a huge benefit.

amazing teacher, mentor, friend. Great tubist, great musician, loves to play, loves to challenge his students, and he loves to teach most importantly. He does an amazing job with the students that are willing to work with him, and hell CCM is an amazing school too.

I do not know Mr. Northcut but I have heard nothing but great things about him.

As for CCM and Cincinnati I will say that both have so many things to offer outside the studio as well if you take the chance to open up to them all. The facilities are excellent and well maintained and there are some really top groups offering professional level performances right on campus be it dance, musical theatre or instrumental groups in residence.

There are some really nice small venue clubs right around campus and you would be only minutes away from downtown with both large performing arts centers in Music Hall with Erich Kunzel & the Pops, Jesus Lopez-Cobos and Cincinnati Symphony and in the fairly new and impressive Arnoff Center hosting musical theatre, the Cincy Ballet and chamber orchestras among other events. It is great to have both a superior classic old facility along with a modern state of the art one just blocks away too. I would also be remiss not to mention Fountain Square for an always great place to enjoy lunch or taking your horn to play in Eden Park or along the serpentine wall by the river watching the occasional paddle wheelers on breaks.
