Marine Band in Athens

Post by The Impaler »

We here in Bulldog country had the distinct pleasure of hosting the US Marine Band for a concert stop on their tour last night in our Performing Arts Center, and what an amazing show it was!!! A light-hearted program, highlighted (for me) by Pinapple Poll and a William Walton overture that I didn't know. Outstanding playing by all, as always.

Also got a chance to hang with several of them a a local spot downtown which was great fun. Then this morning, the Tuba Quartet played a wonderful concert for the tuba/euph studio here at UGA, followed by a short coaching session with our quartet. Great musicians, great bandsmen, and great people. Make the trip to see these guys if you're anywhere near them!!!! Thanks Phil, Mark, Frank, and Chris - for the music, the coaching, and the hang!!! We'll see you guys in DC in January!!!

I'm going to try to be there, but things may be out of my control. The ACC Championship game is in Jacksonville on Dec. 2, so if the band stays in Florida Saturday night, I won't be able to make it

If we come back right after the game, I might be able to get to Athens in time :D ...Will depend on how much sleep I get on the bus.

I told the directors I'd prefer we leave Saturday night, but apparently, the AA is paying for the hotels rooms whether we use them or not :?

Cool man, would love to see ya. And understandable with the AA. They can be like that, but hey, they pay the bills. Take it easy man!!

I didn't hear either of those pieces in Athens, but that sounds like it was great! Found out while they were here that they actually take six different programs on the road with them for their tour. Wow!
