I plan to do about 20-25 minutes of Brass Quintet (of sextet) on my upcoming recital, and I'm looking for good ideas. A few things though. I am looking for a piece that is more of an intonation challenge than a technical challenge. Some of the other material on the recital has that covered. Also, I cannot do the Ewald Quintet no. 1, because I did that on my previous recital.
Thanks for the input!

You could always perform the Robert King Bach Contrapunctus works. I and IX are my favorites...

There is a piece by Lauren Bernofsky - Suite for Brass Quintet. The second movement is a Tuba feature entitles Totentanz.

Kamen Quintet
The quintet I perform with has been liking the Kamen Brass Quintet. He is the movie composer who passed away a couple of years ago. It's about 5 min. Lot's of interesting stuff though. Available through Canadian brass.
The Boehme sextet is a huge challange as well as any of the bach transcriptions. How about west side story, arr by gale???

quintet literature ...
How about Morning Music, by Sampson? My quintet is currently working on this, it is just plain DIFFICULT, melodically, technically, and intonation-wise. But a great piece once you let it grow on you.

Great tuba part, technical: My Spirit Be Joyful, Bach, arr. Robert Madeson
Beautiful pieces: Pavane (1887) for B.Q., Faure', arr. David Baldwin or Salvation is Created for B.Q., Tschesnokoff, arr. Vernon Whaley (I haven't played the other arrangement listed above: Thompson).
We have Ewald's Quintet in B Minor (3rd movement), ed. H. Voxman in our folder. Fairly straightforward, but a few interesting little chromatic moments.
Good luck,
