York FF tuba for sale
I have a York FF for sale. Older model, it looks as though it may be from the 60's. Bare brass,it is in very good condition, has very few dents(small, in bottom bow), some scars from a new valve section installation. 4 piston valves, thumb rotor. Hard case, brand new Altieri bag and separate leadpipe included. Horn plays as 4 valve instrument with other leadpipe. Asking $2300.00. Will post pictures as soon as I possibly can. E-mail me , or call with questions.

I'm not sure if it was a POS. I think I read Dave Fedderley used it in the BSO, so that's what interested me in it. I was gonna try it out, but it sold before I could get down there.

York FF tuba for sale
All interested parties in this horn may now e-mail me at to receive pictures.
As for the claptrap in the last few posts, this horn was in fact at Baltimore Brass a couple of months ago. It was sold to me for $1800, it was NOT listed at $2900. This horn was, according to a VERY reliable party assembled "VERY WELL" by Bob Rusk in the early 90's, Rusk not having the tools to buff the instrument you will see some wayward solder on some joints in the pictures. The horn dates from the late 30's or early 40's according to my research of York serial numbers; I had guessed as to its age in my original post. As for the way it was cut, this instrument was originally an EE flat tuba that had certain pitch tendencies that have carried over into the FF version. The gig bag included was virtually unusable, so I ordered one from Altieri for $262.00. With this disclosed, I am now asking $2100.00 firm for the horn so as to make the $262.00 plus the cost of the horn plus $38.00. It WAS in fact used in the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra; if you are a good player, you will be able to play it in tune.

I'm not sure if it was a POS.
That particular horn was selling at Baltimore Brass for $2,900. It would have been a lot more if it wasn't a POS. Besides, I spoke with Dave and he told me that this specific horn was in fact a POS.
Please assemble your facts before making such a claim.

I played this horn briefly when I was at BBC a few months back. I recall it having a sweet sound (like you'd expect from a York) and having a really solid low C (one of the first things I check when trying an F tuba). I think this could be a very functional tuba, especially for someone who doesn't have a lot of cash and wants to get started on F tuba.
DF told me he had played it in the BSO, but we didn't discuss it any further. I'm a bit surprised that he would call this particular tuba a POS, but one of the things I like about Dave is his candor...
Happy Holidays,
Barney

Thank you, Barney for an accurate assessment of this horn.
Dave did not call this horn a POS. I'm different from the egghead that originally made that claim in that I know Dave, I've studied with Dave, I live in the same town as Dave, I know Dave personally. He didn't call the horn a POS, he may have said that the tuba would not fit that individual's particular needs. This is to officially point out that the original York E flats had intonation problems, the same have carried over to the FF cut.

This horn is sold. No thanks to buttinskies like harold who make claims about a horn that is not the horn they are speaking of, and exaggerate what third parties have said about the horn.
