Quite so. I experienced that with a brass quintet back in the 70's, and more recently with a group of dixieland/Traditional Jazz musicians who are my age or older (65+). It also helps to get new equipment. I try to get at least one new horn every decade or so, and am constantly screwing around with mouthpieces.
