You may not realize it, but that is not that bad of a problem to have. Play with a big sound, in rhythm, and in tune. You will shine through.
I would much rather play with a section that was hardly audible than one that played with no sense of pitch or musicality. It only takes one player with no ears to make a whole section sound bad.
What I did.... I offered to help them, I arranged times to meet them and practice all region and other things.. I went to the times only to have them not show.. after a few times of this I pretty much gave up.
All in all I had one kid below me who did work hard and I worked with.. you can't MAKE someone play and be better, but as a leader its your responsibilty to help those in your section that want to get better..
but ya playing in a situation like that does make yo better, makes YOU more important!
