Playing a concerto AND the rest of the set?

Post by jbeish »

Hello: I'm going to be playing my first concerto with a regional orchestra that I sub with and I will have the opportunity to play the rest of the program as well. Have any of you ever played a concerto AND the program or does one usually get a sub for the other works. The program is the Vaughan Williams Concerto, Midsummer Night's, and Saint Saens 3 (Organ). Any advice?

Thanks!

How many nights is the series? If it's just one night, I'd say that if you're comfortable with it, do it all if you want.

I played a concerto with Delaware, but with rehearsals and concerts it was 6 nights with a double in a row. I decided that discretion (and the paying customers) was the better part of valor.

So do what you feel you can, but I'd say make sure you can nail the RVW first and foremost.
Instead of talking to your plants, if you yelled at them would they still grow, but only to be troubled and insecure?
