I think you are both referring to the same note; this text does not allow for superscript, so if the 1 was raised (or more properly was a ' ) this would make it the same note reference as on second (lower) staff of the diagram below (the one that is also referred to as D4).

Depends on where you went to school...
I have heard colleagues say they have been taught 3 or 4 ways... depending on the school, teacher, and text...

no, the jpeg displayed is the universal one that is taught in most places. I had first-hand experience with that in France and Japan. It's annoying when other schools teach a different way either as an attempt to be progressive or simply out of ignorance.

The jpeg is good because it shows the different approaches. Some schools will teach you that the note in question is called D4 while others will call it d'. The chart shows you all.

For some reason I cannot understand how this horn has not sold. I remember just a few months ago that if a G50 was posted, within a week at the latest, the horn was sold.

I know if I had the money I'd investigate this horn.

I'm guessing the price.
I think these were about $6,000 new. Looks like a great horn, if I needed a small CC I would want one of these, but wouldn't want to pay over $4,500 (ish).

These horns went for $7,000... to $7,500... new without a case... I paid $7,000 for it used with a Dolly Bag.

Many of these have gone for around $4,500 on here... I believe this is a better horn than most of those. They have had a bad reputation for poor plating and problems with the high range. You will not find that on my horn... I believe my price is reasonable and I will consider offers... Baltimore Brass usually sells these used between $6,000 & $6,500...

Eric, I know the Tdork. He's not trying to be rude or inconsiderate, just realistic. We all think our horn is the best thing out there. If it is indeed the best, why would we sell them in the first place? If you know many of the GB50s have gone for about $4500, that should be an indication of price point. None of us should buy horns and expect us to break even. People always want the latest and greatest. I had to drop the price on my MW2000 several times because the Thor was coming out soon for the same money I was asking. At your price, someone can get a used Miraphone 1291, a horn that is much more sexy that the GB50 right now. Nohing against the GB50. My teacher at university had one in his stable for a time and sounded great on it.

As far as D1 vs D4, it all depends on your textbook. My first year book called it D1. My second year book called it D4. This was at the SAME university.

like you are having some big blowout on the price, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to get a horn that normally sells for twice the price, but sorry, the price is reasonable.

I posted what I would want to spend on a horn like that, not what your particular horn is worth. I've seen so many horns here for sale that were used by XXXpro tuba player so I think I will sell it for just as much as I paid for it or more. I think that practice is silly. I see a horn that you said that you paid $7,000 for (wow, that's a lot) {But, hey congrats} that from reading your post, there have been no additions. For example, no flight case, no modifications etc.. It has just been used in a Military band for only a year that has according to you 4 or 5 dings and some (ONLY) 2% plating wear (some wear on the 1st valve slide) and a broken plastic insert on the gig bag you bought. And you get mad at me and ask me to delete my post????? Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?

If you like I will sell you my 2001 Pontiac Aztek, when I bought it it had 16,000 miles on it and now it has 129,000, but I take good care of it and I bought an air freshener (Star Wars! ooohhhh) it only has minor wear 2%. I paid $16,000 for it in 2001 and PRICE DROP IT HAS GOT TO GO I will let it go for a LOW LOW PRICE OF 15,500, HECK I'LL EVEN LET YOU KEEP THE SEAT COVERS THAT I ORDERED FROM PONTAIC (CUSTOM MADE!!!).

Look, you seem like a nice enough guy, Billy M. asked a valid question of why this horn has not sold, I gave HIM a valid answer, sorry it was on YOUR post. Like jtuba said, everyone thinks that the horn they have is the best of the bunch, it's the best horn of that model ever, and it may be. And it could very well be worth the $6,200 is someones eyes and I hope you get what you want for that horn, all I did was answer a question from someone on the board.

Best of luck, I really hope this horn finds a good home, they are great horns, I wish I could have one to add to the stable.

Hey,
The guys at jiffy lube laugh at me, I'm in there about once a month and I think that's why it has lasted as long as it has. It's a great car, it runs real smooth and quiet and since it's not built on a truck frame I actually get good gas mileage (for a SUV). I can also fit a whole bunch of tubas in there (I've had 3 and a electric bass in there before) and with gigging and teaching I need the extra room.
