Prokofiev

Post by clagar777 »

Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet is not on my Cherry Classics CD. Where could I get the tuba excerpt to practice without having to buy another collection?

Thank you,
Clay

Many of Prokofiev's and Shostakovich's works are still covered under copyright protection. A few years ago when the former Soviet Union broke up, they were briefly public domain but that has changed back. Abe Torchinsky did a few books that had to be withdrawn from the market.

I knew the Shosty books were withdrawn, but I thought you could still get the Prokofiev books. I'll check it out.

Upon quick google-glance, I can only find the Torchinsky books at Encore: http://www.encoremupub.com/9046.htm
But they only sell volumes 1-4, 16 and 17. Volumes 5-13 are published through Jerona Music Corporation.

Upon more in-depth googling, I think you can find them on JW Pepper:
http://www.jwpepper.com/catalog/lsearch
Just search for Torchinsky, and I think you will find the different volumes. Prokofiev symphonies is volume 8, and his orchestral works (which includes Romeo and Juliet) is volume 9.

Volumes 14 and 15 are not available anywhere, they are the Shosty books which were yanked. But if you're curious, they were published through Encore as well.

thanks for the info steve. i would like to pick up a couple of books from the pepper site but they list them as tuba with piano? thats a little odd for an orchestral rep book though i suppose someone may have condensed the complete orchestral score to piano leaving out the tuba part so they could be performed on recital(little joke). anyway possibly just an error on the page i will probably drop them an email before i order.

I would contact them before ordering, but I'm thinking it is just a goofy error.
