Splitting any cylindrical tubing between the two slides means that less tubing will have a SINGLE cylindical slide. If the trumpet has a cornet, then you know that the cornets came with 3 replaceable main slides to "cut down" on the amount cylidrical tubing...

It should be noted (if it hasn't already) that those two tuning slides are all the adjustment you get. The individual valve branches are conical and cannot be tuned. :shock:

A real curiosity.
