MW 25?

Saw this tuba and think it's a MW 25. The 4th valve is messed up and it looks like it's been beat around pretty good but it comes with a case.

I DLed a picture of a MW25 and compared it with the offered horn. It appears to be a MW 25 but one of the branches coming out of the valve block seems to be missing although I could be wrong. The pictures could be better....

2 days left. Might be a good horn for someone who can do a few repairs or doesn't mind- if the price is low enough.

It is an old M-W 25. The older models (pre-1975 or so) have the 4th valve slide on the back.

The 20's and 25's had identical valvesets and bores. Sometimes the 3rd and 4th slides were on the front.... sometimes on the back. It's sort of hard to tell the difference by just a picture because the only difference between the 20 and 25 models was the 25 has a bigger bottom bow and bell. I bid because I need some parts to finish a couple of 20's I have in the shop. If this horn needs rotor parts, you're likely to be SOL unless you change the complete rotor assembly.

I've tried to purchase just the rotors for 70-ish M-W tubas and was told that I would have to buy the whole (modern) rotor assembly.

This was not my experience when I shipped a VMI 2103 from Chicago to Kansas via DHL about three months ago. It was inside an MTS case which was itself wrapped in a couple of layers of buble wrap. The tuba was picked up from my home around 11 AM and delivered to middle Kansas in less than 48 hours w/o any damage. Total cost, including home pick-up = $96.00. YMMV but it worked for me.

Well, it didn't go. Didn't make reserve- highest was about $480.

The unavailability of valve parts would be a problem. Having to custom machine parts or buy a whole valve set would take the edge out of the deal. Since it is a 5600/retail tuba, I kinda figured if a guy could get it at $2000 all in (repairs, initial cost) or, like quite a few on this forum, could fix it themselves, they would have a pretty good tuba. But...

I usually sell 'player' Meinls for around $1,600. That's stripped of the lacquer and with the dents removed. That's about all I think they are worth. I wouldn't pay more than about $300 for that particular horn on Ebay... seeings I could possibly (probably) spend 20-30 hours on it before selling it.

BTW.... I wouldn't ship a tuba to my worst enemy via DHL. (or UPS, or USPS, or FEDEX for that matter).
