I understand the need for economic efficiency, in order to stay in business. But so long as raw economics completely trump service, it will unfortunately be that way, regardless of which common carrier used.

The companies also need to be reminded that most people will pay a small premium if they know service will be exemplary, and focus on the customer instead of glossing the shipping label or only trying to get a full truck before delivery.

I called 1-800-GOF-EDEX to find out what the heck was going on, since I hadn't seen a Fedex Green truck for days. (hint: when you get the voice menu, ignore it and keep saying "representative"). After some consternation, it turns out that my package had never been on a local delivery truck and pretty much all of the tracking information from Jan 13 on was "an error". They've promised that I'll see it today, but it's getting late and I don't hold out a lot of hope. :x

My Dad SWEARS by DHL and will only use them for work. I work part time in mail/internet order and we use UPS and probably average 2 complaints a week (pretty good considering we ship 650+ packages a day).

Personally, I like USPS. I had a Miraphone I bought over tubenet shipped to me, and they did a great job. Granted, it was in an MTS case so unless you drop it from a decent height, it would be hard to screw it up...

At least with USPS you can always go in and discuss the problem with a live person near by, and if you're pleasant, 8/10 times they'll go out of their way to help you. If you're a jackass though, all bets are off. It's not THEIR fault that somethings messed up, and they don't get paid enough to deal with you.

Thanks, Wade. It took a while to get those two apart! You can't see it in the picture, but the small ends of those two bells were crimped and rolled back about 1". Like I said... the parachute didn't open.

If those are the bells that I think they are, it's even more surprising. Those ain't no Churrvainee bells--they're plenty lheavy and should take quite a bash before deforming that badly.

Did you get Fedex to pay anything for the damage, Dan?

Nope!... They are not like those thinnish Cerveny jobbies. You've seen a couple of them, Chuck. They are pretty substantial.

I originally refused the shipment and sent it back to the shipper. I understand that FEDEX did settle with the shipper. The bells were then sent back to me for whatever I could salvage of them.

Nope! It took a little time (well... more than a little!) but they all rolled out fairly well OK. They aren't new, but they are usable.

when in college, the creator of fedex (whose name im too lazy to look up) did a proposal for his business corse. his proffesor told him that the idea of fedex would never work... it turns out he was right :wink:

It might seem strange, but here in Vietnam UPS, FedEx, and DHL work in cahoots with the Vietnam Postal Service! Recently, I had a package shipped from my U.S. drop shipping mailbox in Las Vegas, Nevada. Since it had the ATM card (and PIN number) I had been waiting for the past three months, I told the man in Las Vegas to get it here as quickly as possible--money was no object. (This was the service that sends all its packages through Ohio before they send them anywhere--even across the street!) It took a little more than two weeks to get to me--I paid for EXPRESS service! So, a week ago Saturday, I went online at my office and had the package traced. It said the package had been put in the delivery vehicle that morning at 9:00 and when the courier came to my house at 4:30 that afternoon, no one was home and they would try again on Monday. I called home and Hanh said she had been home all day with her cousins, sitting on the porch. When I got home I asked the neighbors and they said no one had been in the neighborhood all day. The business office of this company opened Sunday morning at 10:00, so I called them Sunday afternoon. The operator said that 4:30 was too late to deliver a package, so the driver went home for the day! She said the package would be at my house Monday morning by 9:00. It actually got there at 9:15, but who's counting minutes? The driver said he got lost looking for my house (after I told the lady on Sunday to have him call me if he got lost!)
