someone else might have more specific advice, but type 'mute' in the search window and you will get around 1000 hits

I think the bells are about the same size, so email Denis Wick at deniswick.com and ask what size mute fit the Besson 995 CC.

If you are looking for a performance mute and not just a practice mute I would recomend the Humes & Berg stonelined symphonic aluminum mute. I works great for me. I have a 56J and it fits very nice in the horn and does not stick out very much.

I use the mute just like I got it with the corks that were on it. It came with some additional cork, but it seems fine just as it came.

I got the mute from Lee Stofer a little over a year ago. Some mutes just block the sound and are great for practicing. But the Humes & Berg makes a great sound for performance. I just have to pull my main tuning slide out a tuch when it is in the horn.

It's just my observation, but I like the way it sounds and how well it fits the horn.

I like my "R&S" Jemute. It has a handle on top - big plus! Has adjustable rubber bumpers to fit bell - Plus as it tends to avoid the metal on metal klunk in mid piece change over. Is plastic composition, rugged, but maybe not the measured sound quality as others but quiets down the horn with minimal pitch change - plus and minus.

My 2 cents,

Tennessee Tech Mutes

Tennessee Tech's tuba department makes and sells tuba mutes. They are inexpensive and should perform beautifully. Check out their website.

I have used my Tennessee Tech mute for over 30 years. Can't beat it and I've played them all!

I am also a great fan of H&B.

But the Tennessee Tech mutes do look good:

Go with the Balu mutes. Best bang for the buck.
Sounds great, plays in tune, and plays great in all registers.
Ion is a great guy to deal with.
Good luck,
A Baer
