This evening on our local PBS station, I caught a segment on a fellow around here who "raises" metal. He starts with a piece of copper, brass or bronze and hammers away at it. This item is an example made from a single disc of copper (no soldering, brazing or crimping):
He figures that this piece took about a half-million hammer strokes. He mentions that one never hits the same place twice without first annealing the metal.
