Revueltas: Night of the Mayas

Post by Ian1 »

Has anyone played this piece?

It sounds great but I've not seen the tuba part yet. I'm playing it in a couple of weeks time with conductor Gustavo Dudamel and wondered what people thought of the piece.

Many thanks.

I have played "La Noche" and I really like it. It's LOUD, rhythmic(lots of percussion) and a pretty good tuba part. I don't remember too many specifics, but I remember having a really good time.

I´m glad to hear that you will get to play this piece. Other than Sensemaya, this is probably his other "big" hit. I have played it several times and actually recorded it last year with the Xalapa Symphony Orchestra www.sinfonicadexalapa.com I used to play the whole thing on CC tuba but have migrated over the years to using more F which works great on alot of Revueltas´ music. You will see where the F can work nicely on this piece. I think the key to this music is to play VERY clean and precise. I hope you have a good percussion section and a good concha player. Have fun!

Thanks for the advice. Looking forward to it. I'm playing in on EEb as I do everything "at the moment..."

It's with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra so perc will be great as ever.

I played his Homage to F G Lorca last year, that was really interesting music too.
