need some advise

So, I’ve been in the market for a new tuba for quite some time now, and I have narrowed it down to two horns. Both tubas are grate, but I am having a very hard time trying to choose one over the other. One of them is a 6/4 York-Nirschl CC, and the other one is a 4/4 Hirsbrunner HB-21 CC. Most of the work I do is in large ensemble and orchestra, but occasionally I do some quintet work. I would just like some advise one which way to go and how these two tubas stack up against each other in your opinion?

My guess is that you don't need a 6/4 Nirschl.

Go for the Hirsbrunner...or another good 4/4 tuba.

Why narrow it down to those two? Have you heard about the Yama-york? Or is it York-aha?

The 6/4 tends to be a specialized tool. If you're looking for an all-around instrument, stick with the 4/4.

I agree with Chuck. The Nirschl would do fine in the large ensemble for most work. For a band, you could use it for just about everything except Berlioz transcriptions, but for orchestra you'll need a smaller horn more often.

For quintet, however, the Nirschl will be like driving a truck through a high-speed race course. You and your mates will wish for something lighter in sound. Like, say, a Nirschl 4/4.

I'm glad you like the HB-21. I can't play a reasonably in-tune scale on any of them that I've tried. I guess I don't have the touch.
