I play on one of these occasionally at work - the locations of the slides in the pictures are pretty much exactly where I keep mine.
RE: Intonation - that first time playing it out of the box was a bit odd, but with time and attention it worked. I usually only need to pull 1st for top line Ab and pull 5th for low F.
It seems odd to me that the 3rd and 4th slides have to come so far out in order to be in tune. Any other 2141 owners have some input?

Yes, that's my experience exactly. My 1st and 2nd slides are all the way in. 3 & 4 each have 2 slides and both slides on both valves are out pretty far! 5 is out about 3/4 inch.
Very happy with the horn, it serves me will in quintet and concert band.
