TMEA Clinic/Convebtion Feb 14-17

Post by PolkaNoble »

I've seen next to nothing about the TMEA Clinic/Convention on Tubenet. It is one of the biggest such events in the country.

I plan to be there and it would help to know who else will attend. Before I leave, I want to look closely at the web sites of the tubenet sponsors who will be there. This thing turns out to be a great time to shop and compare equipment and to buy music, CDs and software.

The TMEA exhibits are usually loaded for tuba and euphonium. That alone makes it worthwhile for me.

Often, most of the major manufacturers show up with healthy exhibits along with Custom Music, Tuba Exchange and others. WindSong Press has even made an appearance. You never know until you get there.

I'll be playing with the SFA Brass Quintet and the SFA Faculty Chamber Group on the ATSSB Concert. It should be fun.

WOW, Judging from the response, I'd better identify myself, too

Unless there is a problem with putting a sticker on my active member name tag, I will wear a sticker on the badge ID-ing me as "PolkaNoble".

I have not met most of you, so If you see me introduce yourself. I'll do the same.

Doc,

It is AMAZING how heavy Red Rudy is in its case. I expect to have it in the motorhome for practice, but I am not playing for anything at TMEA so I doubt if I would bring it to the convention center.

I am working on some pictures to make available to tubenet in the next few days. My avitar is Lee Stofer's picture of Red Rudy and I intend to include that.

Be sure to check out the Armed Forces School of Music "traditional" jazz ensemble concert. My buddy's going down there to play next week.

The big question I have now is just how large will this group be?
Will Sea Island allow that many "rowdys" in at the same time?
We are very definitely still on. Sea Island will have to deal with us, like it or not!

No buffet, but good seafood. We should be able to stake out a table at 5:30. If we wait much longer, this will not likely be possible.

As for next door, almost everything next door to the convention center---

It's off of I-10 West, heading towards UTSA. If you keep going up I10W Past D and B, you can't miss it.

Wurzbach works, but Huebner is the actual exit. Getting off at Wurzbach adds a light to the process. Using Huebner makes having to cross a couple of lanes of traffic in a limited amount of time. It is very doable.
