Sam Green

Post by jeopardymaster »

Fellow tubists, some sad news. Per a phone call from another of his former students, apparently Samuel Green has passed away. Student of Fred Geib and Bill Bell, tubist with the Goldman Band, tubist for the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra for 30 plus years, beloved teacher for 50 plus years to hundreds of tubists, euphoniumists, and band and orchestra directors - from the 1940s and 1950s at the University of Cincinnati College of Music, and at the UC College Conservatory of Music from its inception until the 1990's.

If you knew him, you will never forget him. To me he was a teacher of musicianship, life, tuba, and chivalry, in equal doses. A mensch, through and through.

God bless you, Sam.

Please feel free to pm for details. As I learn more I'll pass it on via private email and phone.

Greetings all,

I was hoping to get calls out to a number of people before they heard it here, but word spreads rapidly. Sam passed away late Saturday evening. He was on his way back from being with friends at the Cactus Pear restaurant, which many of you will know was one of his favorite pieces to be. I had the pleasure of dining with him this past Thursday evening, and he was in great spirits. I can say without reservation that he enjoyed his life up to the very end.

For those interested, there will be a gathering in his honor in the near future. Sally Sankura and I will be putting together the details soon, so if you wish to be notified please send me a PM or email.

Sincerely,

Tim

Greetings all,

There will be a gathering to commemorate the life and times of Sam Green this coming Sunday, March 18 from 4pm to 8pm at the Cactus Pear Restraurant in Blue Ash, Ohio. The address is 9500 Kenwood Road. Blue Ash is a northern suburb of Cincinnati, so a map search with either city should get you the proper directions. If anyone has any questions, please feel free to call me at (937) 369-4580.

Sincerely,

Tim
