I experienced a similar game last year in Greensboro--Duke was playing Southern. Greensboro is 60 min from Duke--tons of blue and white in attendance. The Southern band was so loud, clean, in tune, and oh yeah, LOUD that they quite literally had the entire coliseum going, even out in the concession areas. People laughed out loud when Duke's band played, as compared to Southern's. There were a very few Southern fans there, but it didn't make much difference in the support their band generated--a very awesome thing to see and hear. Of course Duke won that one quite handily, but still........

Sign of the times?
One of the middle schools out here has announced that it's discontinuing its band program. Not for lack of funds, but lack of interest.
I've been wondering if I should suggest that they start a guitar and drums program in its place. It'd keep music in the offerings at least.
