Oh, I'm going to have fun with this one! I quit a brass band because a drummer was "hired" who couldn't stay anywhere near the beat, and I was told, as Eb tuba player, that it was my job to keep the band on the beat. I'm now subbing for a short while in that same band, with the same drummer, and I think I will just show up with an electric bass, which I can use to much better effect to straighten out the drummer. heh.GC wrote: The bass sets the style of the rhythm section, controls the tempo better than the drummer (and often has to straighten out drummers), and provides the heartbeat of the music.
Oh, and if we can substitute an e-bass for a tuba now and then, how do you think, say, Ewald #1 will sound with a bass on the tuba part? Now, there's an idea!
