Go to your local GFS or Sam's and get a couple of institutional size packages of cayenne pepper and dose the island. Those geese will probably leave the little patch of green alone. Otherwise, it'll be ankle-deep in goose poop. The good side will be that there will be no bugs on the island... so you'll not have to worry about weed eating it!

You could always put a tuba quartet on the island and have them empty their spit into the pond if you need it to fill up a bit.
