I feel your pain buddy.

A few years ago my DC apartment was broken into. There was only one horn in the house at the time and they didn't take it. Apparently they loaded up a couple of bags full of video games, dvds, cameras, loose change, and rode off on my mountain bike. I still miss that bike.

You just won the horn on ebay? Chances are slim you had gotten it insured? Are you a pro player? If so and if you didn't have business insurance then you may have tough luck. If you are not a pro player, (or make more than half your cash doin' something other than tuba), then your homeowners might be sympathetic.

I assume you got all police reports. You can try calling your local pawn shops but those guys are just as crooked as the junkies they buy their loot from. One of the officers at my break in told m to check the pawn shops as frequently as I could in hopes that it will one day show up.

Did you scour your neighborhood alleys and trash cans thoroughly? You may not find your tuba but possibly something else they took has been tossed somewhere nearby. Who knows maybe they got tired of the bulk of the horn and tossed it before trading it in on drugs.

In the case of my break- in... our apartment was just one of many in the neighborhood within a few week's time, (I believe there were 2 others on my same street alone). You might want to take a day or two off of work and play the friendly neighborhood watch...

The police/pawn shop connection may do more good than you think. While I lived in Atlanta, the local County Police managed to recover a stolen item for me, using the make, model and serial number. It took about three weeks for it to show up in a pawn shop inventory, the police confiscated it, then summoned me to the headquarters to identify it and take it home.

I so hope that you are successful in finding your tuba.

By the way, if anyone in the Atlanta area ever comes across a large and unusual-looking gold-plated mouthpiece that has "Stofer" and "0" on it, that mouthpiece was stolen from me just after doing an educational concert at one of the Fayette County, GA schools. It is a one-of-a-kind mouthpiece that I made just before retiring from the Army. It is so out-of-the-ordinary that I thought it would show up eventually. If anyone finds it and returns it to me, I'll give you a new mouthpiece.

Hey man sorry to hear about that. You might want to contact all the instrument shops and repair shops within a 20-50 mile radius of atlanta and let them know that your horn was stolen and give them your serial number. also keep an eye out for ebay. I do alot of looking there and I will keep an eye out for you. Sorry again and i hope you get your horn back.

This was Fred Marzan's Besson Eb, I believe, and was an exquisite example. Someone out there might know what you have absconded with, and there's a special place reserved in hell for you if you do.

It would be good to know if there was a break-in involved...your car, your home...just so we know.

I hesitate to leave mine in the locked car, in a gigbag in my driveway overnight when I have another event the next day.
