Incidentally, I had a very interesting chat today with Mark Carter at Mr.Tuba who worked with M-W on the development of the 2040/5. Apparently, the 2040/5 is not just a five valve version of the 2040, but also includes a number of other modifications, to improve intonation and tone. So if you have tried one version, do not assume the other will play the same - they are different animals!
I have never played a 2040, but it certainly sounds like it would be worth you paying the extra for a 2040/5. I can vouch for that being a superb Eb
