Original 20J upright bells are pretty scarce. Your friend can buy a brand-new one in raw brass direct from Kanstul for around $600. The flare on the Kanstul is a bit smaller than the original... 20" instead of 24" (I think). A customer of mine bought one a few weeks ago and had it shipped to me so the new lacquer would match the body and his old recording bell.

It is the removable bell that Kanstul uses on their marching GG contra bass bugle and their marching BBb tuba. The bell flare is 21" in diameter. I believe the Conn upright bell is 22" in diameter, so it is pretty close. The Conn bell front flare is 24" is diameter for sure.TubaTinker wrote:Original 20J upright bells are pretty scarce.
