another example of the ever increasing incidents of recital rage, as the stress of daily life rears its ugly head in the concert hall.....

next they will have metal detectors at the doors....

Were they playing john cage or something?

Instead of talking to your plants, if you yelled at them would they still grow, but only to be troubled and insecure?

Actually, it sounds like my Jr. High band class, except it was me, Scott McConnell and Rick Pederson in the baritone section taking on the drum section. We beat their butts, mainly because our baritone section had World Class Sound. Our teacher told us so...

Huh? Whatever happened to being cited for disturbing the peace? Now, we will have pitched battles in symphony concerts.

"That section should have been taken molto meno"

"You friggin' IDIOT. It's meno mosso"

"You guys, SHADDUP!"

"You shut up yourself."

"Up yours, tux-boy"

"OH YEAH!?"

"YEAH. I'LL TAKE YER ARM AND RIP IT OFF. You'll be air-conducting with a STUMP!"

"YOU AND WHO ELSE?"

"My WIFE could deal with you!"

"PROVE IT!"

And the rest is history.

... it wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't the viola section!
(sometimes they forget to put down their bows... What! You want ANOTHER position!)

I kind of like it. It is a change from the usual zombie-ness that seems to pervade many classical concerts. Sleep, sleep...it's over...stand up and clap.

I'd like to see a donnybrook break out onstage, myself. Whaddya mean that wasn't detaché? How'd like like some detaché action from my fist in your face?

Just had this weird image of Round Card Divas circling the stage during grand pauses.

Reminds me of a warm summer night at the Grant Park Concerts in the old Petrillo "Bandshell" (precursor of the "new old" Petrillo MUSIC shell and now the Pritzker Pavillion) many moons ago. I was sitting about five rows back listening to Brahms 1. In front was this elderly gentleman who kept time by TAPPING HIS METAL-TIPPED CANE ON THE CONCRETE. Without warning, one of the little old "Sheridan Road" ladies (came to every concert because it was free and knew the scores by heart) picked up her umbrella (a GP concerts necessity) and started BEATING the old coot over the head with it. The assigned members of Chicago's finest, swallowing their donuts whole, ran over and separated the combatants, administered CPR to both parties, and sent them on their way. The orchestra did not miss a beat (sorry!).
