Okay, the finals of the Eurovision song contest are tomorrow and best estimates are that somewhere over 100 million people are going to watch it (nothing better to do, I suppose).
German people singing a song about a Russian city and trying to sound like Abba. Ooookay...
I note that Sweden is still trotting out Abba lookalikes in this year's EV.
Out of the semifinalists, the one I liked best was the Irish entry. Nicely understated production wtihout the ensless guitar/synth/percussion backing. The female lead singer could be better, but it wasn't bad.
The results are in; the winner for 2007 is...Serbia with 268 points. Ukraine came in second with 235--and my favorite, Ireland, came in dead last--with 5.
Shows what I know about pop music.
The curious thing is that Eastern Europe pretty much swept the top spots, with Western Europe (UK, France, Germany, Spain and Sweden, taking the bottom spots in the voting along with Ireland.
