I am convinced that 90% of the problems with rhythm, tone, intonation, articulation, technique, and overall prowess on the horn are related to air issues.

I suspect some tuba players do feel that way. However, I've seen lots of great plyaers who are clearly having a blast (no pun intended) while they are playing.

I have never heard this. And if I was a band director (which I used to be) who hired a tuba coach who told that to the kids--that coach would be fired without an explanation, no matter how respected he is.
