Just let me politely disagree with you.
And I bear no animosity towards anyone who uses PCs. To me it's the same as different automobile makes or tuba brands. If you like what you're using, use it and don't criticize another person just because he doesn't use the same thing you do...
I still think the game excuse is pretty lame. The guy didn't even mention the Ambrosia site!
One of the lamest excuses I hear for not changing to a Mac is that you can't play the same games as you can on the PC. The truth is there are BETTER games you can play on the Mac that you CAN'T play on a PC.
Okay, but can you play Half-Life, Battle for Middle-earth, Battlefield series, Star Craft and all of those other BIG titles. I don't remember seeing anything about OS-X or anything like that when I was reading what operating systems are required for running the games...just strictly Windows. Oh, and I checked out the website...you can play plenty of those types of games on the pc...I know there are some good games for Macs, just not as many...at least the games that I play.

No, I don't play games, but these are my thoughts...
I use my Mac for internet, music, school work, and general tasks like that.
I used PCs a lot prior to buying my Mac. I feel like I wasted (and others waste time too) time simply keeping my PC running adequately. I always had to clean the registry, scan for spyware, mess with the cookies, and all those other necessary tasks on a PC. With my Mac I don't have to do that. I simply do my work, go about my life without worrying when the window I have open will freeze and I have to restart the computer. I was wasting time using a PC.
Yes I spent a little more money on my Mac, but I've been much more productive with it.
Just a thought...

Re: A Question to ask yourself....
As a witness to the numerous software problems of three brand-new iMac G5's, (two of which have burned out and crashed,) I don't really follow this line of thinking. Choosing between either system is just like choosing a political party; both suck, but you have to go with you're most comfortable with. That being said, I'm a proponent of the Windows OS. Sure, there's a lot of software, most of which is not without it's fair share of bugs. But I don't think Macs are the "cure-all, end-all" system that many make them out to be. Macs are better with audio and video, although Windows does just fine on its own. The only reason to favor Mac over Windows is if you plan on running some Mac-only programs, like Digital Performer, ProTools, etc..; however, on Windows, there are programs like Cubase and Adobe Audition which do just as well.ThomasP wrote:
PC's require a fair amount or routine maintenence. Mac's do not.
PC's require more software (this is declining...) to execute certain functions or activities. Mac's have many native applications that you don't have to buy.
Based on those requirements, I'd go with a PC. Yes, I know, Macs "always run better and faster than PCs." But, PCs are also made to fit most of the software being written out there.tubabuddha wrote:im most likly going to use it for mp3's ,recording , MSoffice and mabye something like finale
Then again, it's all about comfort. What OS have you been using all this time to post on the tubenet? That's what you should go with.

The 3 iMac's you speak of is going to happen. Even Bentley's have to go to the shop. My point is that it's much less often than a PC, and to me, that pretty much by itself is worth it. Me dealing with PC problems is like doing taxing, I get really upset and wonder how they can get away with making a product with so many problems. But I can't fault them, I'd cut corners too and not release a polished product if people were still willing to buy something sub par.
As I've said before, if money's an issue, buy a PC, deal with the issues. If you can afford a Mac, you'll be much happier.

PCs aren't that bad! You make it sound like they crash every 10 minutes and that you get viruses every time you log on to the internet. We haven't had a single problem w/ our new laptop since we got it in November and Windows Vista runs just fine.
Then only "problems" were with my games crashing but that's b/c I was running it in a very high detail level. PCs do just fine and a lot of the programs that are great on Macs are also available for PCs and some are even free. So, I find it more cost effective to get a PC since you can get a lot of the same programs that are "Mac exclusive" for the PC, just knock-off versions that do the same thing. Also PCs are running much better now than they used to.
Plus, I find most (not all) Mac users to be a little "uppity" and all high and mighty. Just keep thinking that...I've used Macs and they're all right...just not for me (or most people)...they look nice and that's about all I can say...

Although there are people like this on both sides, it always seem like it is the Mac users who boast more often about how "superior" their system is, (case in point=those stupid, annoying "Mac vs. PC" commercials.)
Also, I wonder why so many people say they are having problems with maintaining their Windows OS? I hardly ever have problems, and even if there is a problem, it is easily fixed. Maybe my system is special.....

But, hey guys, stop ranting about the users, and keep the discussion focused on the computers instead. Otherwise this will get out of hand just like every other Mac/PC debate I've ever seen.

The only time I've ever used a PC without problem is at work where there is a super aggressive (University managed network) spyware/virus protection programs. It's great that they have those things, but if something comparable was put on a PC (in my experience) it's nearly unusable because it hogs over half of your system's resources.
On the flip side. Apple will tell you that you don't need any virus or spyware programs on your computer, and your computer will run smoothly.
I'm more than capable of making a PC work well, I've done it in the past and still do it for my father, but I simply don't have the patience to do it, it's not worth my time or effort, I'd rather enjoy using my Mac.
(as I've said twice prior, if you can't afford a Mac, buy a PC and deal with the problems, or hope you're lucky and don't have any)

The MacBook Pros were just updated yesterday with a new chipset, better video, larger standard hard drives, proper support for 4 GB of RAM, and LED backlighting for the 15" models.
Sytem Shootouts.org posted these new comparisons with similarly-priced Dell systems:

I'd say get a mac...
Though I'm sorta a PC guy, and anti-default O's for iPod, a Mac is a better computer overall. I've read that Mac's are less likely to get viruses, run faster, due to not constantly having to upgrade anti-virus software, and likely cheaper in the long run.
If you get a PC, you NEED anti-virus, if you're connecting to the 'net.

I thing those commercials are great....but they still couldn't get me to fork over the extra money to buy an Apple. It's funny to me how folks compare the prices of name brand pc's to Mac's, but ignore completely the major cost savings that can be had by not buying a big name pc with the same features. A simple pc using free antivirus software is just so much more cost effective than a mac for what most computer users will actually do (surf the web, listen to music, pick up email).tubafatness wrote: ...those stupid, annoying "Mac vs. PC" commercials.
p.s. I've been using only free antivirus software for over 7 years and with no problems.
