My question is why the new guys don't do some preliminary research on a topic before they post?

Surely people ask the question a fresh, rather than search is because they want people's latest views and the interaction of a live discussion?

TubeNet is not just a library of information, although there is good stuff to be found. I don't know if it is just my perception, but from perusing, I think there were better debates on the old TubeNet - maybe because some of those people with the most enlightening views no longer seem to participate.

Is there any energy to write a list of FAQs?

I would be willing to participate but would need help because I'm probably one of the guys who would benefit from a FAQ.

Why is it that some people who waste so much time here take it upon themselves to insult and demean those who are discovering this online community for the first time?

Once a specialized BBS like this reaches a certain age, there are very few new questions that can actually be asked that haven't appeared before in some form or fashion.

Such is the nature of education. A new class comes in and gets taught Poetry 101 all over again.

The last thing we need is 20 "upperclassmen" berating the new member because they are asking the EXACT same questions the berator was asking 3 years ago.

Who holds the wisdom high ground here? Those telling someone to STFU and use the search function is totally counterproductive.

If a topic was discussed 2 years ago, there are now hundreds and hundreds of new followers of the forum who have hundreds and hundreds of their own ideas to contribute which could not have possibly been a part of the discussion 2 years ago.

If you are indeed tired with a topic which has been previously discussed then YOU should STFU and stay out of that discussion instead of going off on that individual as if you somehow invented music yourself.

I like the idea of searching and using existing threads to contribute your thoughts because it's alot easier to read one mega thread than reading 30 short ones.

I'm all for continuing the discussion and having the discussion over and over again with a new crop!


We could have 5 or 6 MEGA threads, that could address these questions that come up again and again.


My post in the current thread wasn't intended to demean, it is hard to "read" others on a forum.... I genuinely hope they weren't construed as such.


I was just thinking that continuing the discussion, instead of starting it over--- would centralize all the thoughts together, and make the whole tubenet experience more cohesive and comprehensive. I'm not claiming to not be guilty of a "newbie" move or two at some point in time, I'm not looking to kick out the newbies or make them take a "test", I'm just thinking that when I first started on the old Tubenet---that set up would have been extremely helpful for my questions.

I'm left wondering if this sets a new standard for posts on TubeNet. I have to assume that this post will not be pulled. I know. I know. WTF is wrong with me? Now i"m becoming quite concerned with myself.

FAQ thread or forum, Sean? Or is that considered as the FeedBack portion?

The problem I can see with any FAQ section, is that for so many things there is not a definitive answer as views differ.

Take the often asked question of a good starter CC. We would not be able to agree now and with new models coming out any list would soon be out of date.

I for one might be willing to help put together FAQs for the tubenet. It's true that some of the questions are impossible to give a concrete answer to (i.e. I'm buying my first CC tuba...) but a guide could be put together. Something like:

The following is a list of CC tubas that are generally considered good horns to start on. This list is simply a reference and will be updated from time to time to show the change in trends.

1. Miraphone Rubber-Ducky
2. Perantucci Water-hose (24 valves)
3. York #Pi
etc etc


Since times change (and new horns are made), if the FAQ was a stickied thread in the main forum, it could easily be modified.

What do you guys think?
