Vintage tuba gooseneck

Post by Hank74 »

Hello again,

I need some help or advice on what would be the best brand of gooseneck for a vintage sousaphone.

Let me be a bit more specific. I recently got a vintage sousa on E-bay without any neck or bits. When I measured the leadpipe, the inner rim end where you put in the neck turned out to be about 5/8 inches. I tried it out with my Jupiter and Conn necks and they were 3/4 inches.

If you could lead me to a place or person who might have the right neck and bits, I'd appreciate it.

From the look of the main section of the sousa, I believe I have a vintage Conn because of their trademark wrapping by the player's chest.

Sousa necks can be all over the place. You need to get a PRECISION measurement of the inside of the receiver to make sure you get what you need.

With the narrower bore, it could be something from a predecessor of the current Amati/Cerveny company. Does it look something like this?

Like I said before.... you REALLY need to get a precision measurement of the inside of the receiver before you do anything. No.... you can measure it with a tape measure!
