audition for ensembles are coming in september and i am looking for a solo to play.....am going to be a freshman

I used Ben-Criscutto's Concertino for tuba and Band. It's not hard if you can double tounge and usually they only want the first and second page.

When I was in my first years of college, I found the Glenn Smith arrangement of Barat's "Introduction and Dance" to be manageable technically, as well as a good demonstration of one's conception of stylistic contrast. This is a good freshman year tuba solo. Don't try to do the V. Williams just yet.

The Bill Bell arrangement of Bach's Air and Bourree is a bit more moto-perpetuo, but still a staple in the repertoire that should be within your grasp at this point.

I really enjoyed playing Sonata #3 in A Minor by Vivaldi. It's fun to play and sounds great.

Fantasy for Tuba by Malcolm Arnold might be an option if your interested in contemporary.

Don Haddad Suite for tuba is also a good choice, The Hartley Suite for unaccompanied Tuba is a good solo as well. Ofcourse, you can never go wrong with Hindemith.

Try to find the University of North Texas(UNT) tuba studio website. Under resources, they have a great list of solos by level.
