Nah, it's strawberry season in Oregon. Our local varieties don't travel well (they mostly end up in ice cream) but are red clear through and really pack a whallop of flavor. The season runs maybe three weeks.

Mimi gets a couple of flats from a local farm and puts up freezer jam and I make strawberry shortcake, easy on the shortcake and heavy on the strawberries and whipped cream.

Washed down with homemade root beer.

Life doesn't get much better...
