Without reservation whatsoever.... Mary Ann. Much less trouble that all that make-up and hair spray that Ginger must have used!

actually
I know how everyone scoffs at people who cite their own work, but I couldn't resist adding in my two cents. This is from an opinion (delivered verbally) I wrote for a class my college freshman year.
[quote]If you were stranded on a desert island, what would you want to have with you? Rope? Matches? A knife? Or maybe just someone who looks good in a bikini? For maritime men, millionaires, and professors everywhere, this question recalls one of mankind’s oldest and most hotly contested debates: Who is the hot one, Ginger or Mary Ann?
While this controversy may seem simple or even low-brow, nothing could be further from the truth. Ginger and Maryann embody the dualism of America – rich vs. poor, Hollywood vs. Kansas, consumerism vs. simplicity. Although the two come from completely different worlds, no one can deny that Mary Ann is more deserving of our attention.
I cannot and would not refute Ginger’s physical attractiveness, though I feel her appeal ends there. Her status as a Hollywood sex symbol is quite intimidating for a peasant such as I – how could I ever afford to pay for the glamorous life style she has become accustomed to? In addition, her fame puts her in high demand. I don’t to want to live being constantly paranoid about Errol Flynn stealing my girl. This is one case of power not being sexy. Mary Ann, on the other hand, is a genuine girl-next-door. Who needs all of Ginger’s Hollywood makeup when a pair of pigtails has the same effect? Mary Ann and I share a similarly simple lifestyle, most likely the basis for my preference to her over Ginger.
Being a movie star may be exciting, but the career is largely impractical in the long haul. Mary Ann can cook, clean, sew, and even till a field. Ginger has led a pampered life and thus developed none of the useful skills associated with housewife duty. Sure, her acting talent may be a neat party trick, but guys like you and I probably wouldn’t even be invited to those ritzy Hollywood parties. As far as life on the island goes, Maryann and her Emerson-esque self-reliance developed from her years working on the farm would prove far more useful than Ginger.
Furthermore, Mary Ann’s constant attention to the Professor indicates she is interested in learning and thereby bettering herself. As a self-proclaimed man of academia, I admire Mary Ann’s decision to value education. On the other hand, we have the vapid, blank Ginger who never even had time for proper schooling with her fast-track acting career. She was too busy posing for her infamous appearance in Playboy to learn how to have an intelligent conversation.
In addition, my obsession with all things agrarian further confirms my infatuation with a Kansas farmer’s daughter. Think about it, why else would a loyal son of Massachusetts leave his home and come to the land of cornfields? Tell me that Mary Ann’s father would consider passing his farm on to a son-in-law and I’ll be down on one knee faster than you can say “S.S. Minnow.â€

Mary Ann for sure. Ginger is too 'blonde' -- even if she might be a red head.

In her modeling days, Tina Louise was quite stunning:

...and she's got a much longer list of screen credits (and in better movies) as well as having recorded four LP's. Note that she did not participate in any of the TV "Return to Gilligan's Isle" retrospectives. I submit that playing "Ginger" was a much more difficult job than playing "Mary Ann".

In the case of the first and last of your mentions...I don't think skanks should qualify.harold wrote:Notice that with all of the deviations from the initial question, there are some people missing:
B. Spears, L. Lohan, P.Hilton...
Either they don't make the grade OR many of us here are a bit older than we are willing to admit.
Still with holding judgment on the other (I blame the parents)

The other thread was limited to 50's and 60's, before the above-mentioned children were born.harold wrote:Notice that with all of the deviations from the initial question, there are some people missing:

And this thread was limited to Ginger or Mary Ann.
