In the old days, one of the reasons for "taking the waters" was to alleviate the pain of kidney stones. A lot of mineral water contains magnesium salts, which also serves not only as a diuretic, but as a laxative. Drink enough of the stuff, Wade, and you should be in hog heaven.

My wife's family maintains a summer home in North Carolina. One of the features of the neighborhood is that it boasts a natural spring that has a certain lithium content. Supposedly good for one's mental health. Judging from some of her relatives, you couldn't tell it.

Out here, the city gets its water from the McKenzie, an uncontrolled river fed by snow melt from the mountains. Almost nothing done to it and, there is at least one outfit in town bottling it.

Me, I git muh water outa uh hole in da ground... Supposedly has some manganese content, which is supposed to be good for my hair. On the other hand, my neighbors have arsenic in their water. It does nothing for my sanity, however.

And around here, there is so much lime (calcium carbonate) in the water that it goes off the Culligan hardness scale. Wait just a few years after putting new pipes in, and you'll actually get chunks coming out of your fawcet from the deposits on the screen over time.

The good thing about that: we never had to worry about lead/tin solder from the copper pipe joints leeching into the system!

There's a place about 50 miles from here... French Lick, Indiana (how's that for a name!), that bottle and sold a product called Pluto Water. Their motto was "what nature doesn't do, Pluto Water will".

French Lick Springs and Hotel are still in operation and have recently added a new casino to go with the golf resort and condominiums.

By the way, you may wish to consider:

It doesn't weigh as much as Bloke's water ....
