Actually, I try not to be rude unless I feel the other person was attempting to be rude to me. Since my youth, I have had a feeling of that all adult tuba players are potentially ambassadors for the tuba. If we want our instrument to be respected, we need to see to it that we act with class and that we play and treat the instrument as a musical instrument. This has been a guiding principle for me.

I do not get asked about why I play Tuba too often as I think people take a look at me and say.. well of course he is the tuba player.

I have in the past used these though...
1. I like being the solo instrument in the orchestra (be prepared for more questions)
2. Well it'd sure look silly for me to play a flute wouldn't it?.
3. Because G-d built me with 6/4 design specs in mind.
4. My cows love a tuba serenade at dusk over anything else in the world.
5. because I Love it when the little kids at church say.. "wow that silver tuba sounds so cool" and I possibly save a future generation from becoming a trumpet player.
