Braces!

Post by dopey »

Im getting em off the 2nd!!

I cant' even wait. I've had them on since beginning of 9th grade, and well i really didnt start taking music/tuba serious till way after having them on. I cant' even remember playing w/o em.

I am now a senior, so im ready to get em off but i defiantly cant' wait to play without em!

Now im just debating whether to continue working my etudes/scales etc.. I plan on having a system where ima have all 24 major/minor scales down this year(Scales and I didn't get along at a contest last year.. lol)

So ya.. i had to share.. Anyone else go thru this? Im glad ima have months before all region w/o em so thats a big plus:D

No more playing alot and leaving my lips in shreds lol. :D

Aight im done.

Braces

Post by TubaRay »

I am happy for you, Jacob. I know it must be a real hassle to have the braces in the first place. Be prepared for a period of significant adjustment. Things should, indeed, be much better after that.

Best wishes,

Braces

Post by Alex Reeder »

When I first got my braces, I was amazed that I hardly had any adjustment at all - my playing was unaffected.

But when I got them off, my high range dropped an octave, just like that. I was struggling with notes that had been easy as pie before. It came back easily, but took some time.

My theory is that my lips were stretched a bit around the braces and that made high notes a little easier with braces. When they came off, I had to work significantly harder to get my embouchure tight for those high notes.

Good luck. I hope this doesn't happen to you, but in any case, just be patient. Whatever happens, a little time and smart, gradual practice will fix you up better than before.

2 more days!!!

ahaha looks like my solos will arrive either the day of or day before.. great timing huh? Im have these pieces i wanna practice, and a lip that will prolly be very fustrating to me.

One thing im hoping, is trumpet playing.. that i'll have a easier time learning.. I've fooled around with trumpet and euphonium about the same amount, if not trumpet more.. and im to where i can read trumpet music ffairly easily, just hard time sounding the right notes.. yet euph im doing pretty good..Im hoping getting braces off will allow my trumpet learning to go a lil quicker too.. cuz right now im horrible lol..

but ya.. 2more days.. I can't wait.. i think my teeth/lips are ready to get em off too.. just feels like it..

they are OFF!!

man when the first took em off, i didnt't ihnk i had any teeth, all felt like gum tissue..

i had to run my sis by something @ jr high before i went o high school.. i walked in the jr high band hall and was just like gimme something to play anyhting, then I saw a 24aw mp so i grabbed it, and found a old concert shortly there after standing up in a corner..

not noticing much of a diff, at first range was a lil diminished, high notes tend to break off..

went to highschool practicing for a whole period pretty much, by the end i was back to where i was before, around the C above the staff.. Then I picked up a baritone, it seemed 'easier' to play.. hit pitches a whole lot better.. then tried trumpet.. well sucked as usual:D lol.. one thing i noticed.

best part, never hurt.. ever.. normally when im sqealing out those high notes my braces are really doing a number on me but not anymore.. same with playing baritone or trumpet for long.. woohoo:D i cant' wait till i get fully used to it w/o braces:D
