For those of us who used to see her on Live from Lincoln Center watching the NY Phil play, we will miss her:

I was lucky enough to hear her sing in "The Daughter of the Regiment" at the City Opera many years ago. She had a great set of pipes and was never embarassed by her Brooklyn roots. She was a true American original who's advocacy for the arts will be sorely missed. Thank God she has a slew of recordings available so we can all revel in her artistry.

Beverly Sills
Beverly Sills was a major figure in the opera(and classical music) world. Her advocacy for the arts is legendary. We have lost one of the greats.
