While wandering around Feldkirch in Austria, I came across the Musikverein Gisingen band playing at a wine festival.
All the other BBb I had seen in use in other bands had been of the M-W 25 style, but in this band was this big Kaiser BBb. Any idea what it is?

The two small tubas are Cerveny. What a contrast in size!
What is this Kaiser tuba?

Hmmm... don't think it's a 190:

Not an Alex 164 either:

Maybe a Cerveny 696?

It might also be a Cerveny 601, which looks almost identical to the 696 (overall specs are the same, and I've never been sure what the difference is between the two models). The cerveny.biz link above has links to all the BBb Cerveny models down the left side -- if you click on the link for the CBB601 you can compare them.

Those bands often march as part of the festival, so an attached strap would make sense. It takes my breath away just looking at the big horn.iiipopes wrote:Am I seeing the picture correctly? Even sitting down, it looks like the player is using a strap to steady the beast! Magnificient tuba!
Thanks for posting the pics.
