Digital Recorders

Post by Dan Schultz »

I am ready to upgrade my digital recording equipment and would like some opinions from the TubaNet Freak Jury regarding getting the most bang from my buck. Here are a few of the main parameters:

- Ability to input up to six channels.
- Enough internal memory for a two-hour recording session.
- Capable of burning a CD directly.

Is there something out there for under $1,000?

Yes, I do... and plenty of software. But I am tired of having to convert file formats and twiddling with moving files from a digital recorder to my laptop in order to do edits and burn CDs. What I want to be able to do is simple record a two hour concert and then burn a CD right on the recording device. I want to be able to carry something the size of laptop into a concert, turn it on, and forget it until the concert is over. Once I have a CD, I can always go back and do edits if necessary.

Call these guys:

I have worked often with this company while doing audio work for the Army and they have always been helpful. They have never tried to sell me more than I needed.

Edit: This one looks promising:
