Re: officers
Instead of talking to your plants, if you yelled at them would they still grow, but only to be troubled and insecure?

I doubt it. Being a unit of time, a second is an abstract, arbitrary concept. One cannot hear a second any more that one can hear an kilometer.bloke wrote:I nominate ed for Sergeant at Arms' Length.
Do I hear a second?

I would like to nominate myself as Diplomatic Officer for the Socialistic Republic of Vietnam (careful with your comments--no politics, remember? It really is the name of the country I live in.)

I wanted to be the Secretary of the Department of Funny Hats but I have changed my mind.
I think I'd rather be the Administrator of the Agency for Valve Oil and Slide Grease.
It's dirty work but the position is pretty powerful. No matter who you are, what kind of horn you play and how hard you practice, you will sound like crap without me. In return, I will supply oil and grease to your specifications at a fair price.
However, I will have to charge *everyone* a tax, no matter what kind or how much you use.
Thoughts?

And didn't Art inherit the job from his father? I don't know if Art has any progeny but they would be first in line of succession...bloke wrote:Mark,Mark wrote:Okay, if "Spelling Nazi" is taken, I want to be Chief Research Scientist, Department of Lacquer vs. Silver.
You can't just "jump in" and assume such a position...![]()
...You'll have to start as an assistant (15 mo. apprenticeship...no stipend for 1st 6 mo.) and work your way up to Deputy R. A.
The current Director of Tubalogical Research Studies (correct title), Art Hovey, probably won't be retiring for at least 14 years...
So, Mark, the best you could do is Assistant Director of Tubalogical Research Studies, Metallurgical Coatings Assessment Division, after Bloke's approval, of course.
Would that work for you?

I must cry "fowl"! here... bloke is obviously suggesting that Mark take action with extreme prejudice as regards Mr. Hovey. Can't we all just get along!?bloke wrote:The current Director of Tubalogical Research Studies (correct title), Art Hovey, probably won't be retiring for at least 14 years...

Careful! Remember, not ALL arms are created equal. Some arms are more equal than others...ed wrote:I accept!

I have a right to any job I want, despite my total lack of qualifications. If I don't get this job immediately, I will not hesitate to call in Joe's favorite organization, the TCLU (TubeNet Civil Libterties Union). Not only will the TCLU make sure that I get the job I want, they will also make sure there aren't anymore crosses displayed on this forum!bloke wrote:Mark,Mark wrote:Okay, if "Spelling Nazi" is taken, I want to be Chief Research Scientist, Department of Lacquer vs. Silver.
