Despite what the article says, our performance fees do not fund our costumes or instruments. If they did I'd have a much better tuba
That's me on tuba in the picture. What little you can actually see.
You can't beat oom-paahhhing for fun. That's quite a group you're with.
I've been subbing in a local German band, but can't find decent trachten anywhere. I got some real lederhosen, but the hats and suspenders available in the US are really cheesy.
And the upscale stuff in Germany has become a luxury with the euro at about $1.42.

Try Ernst Licht http://www.ernstlicht.com - that's where we end up getting most of our tracht. Stick to the imported items, though. The items they make on site can be hit or miss.

Hmm, northern Virginia. Would that be the Alte Kameraden band out of Fairfax? They're a good group.
I sub with a much smaller group, the King's Park German Band. The regular tuba player, Bob Scherago is in the photo. The accordianist, Ann Andricosky, also plays tuba with the full band. http://www.kingsparkband.org/german.html
I'll check out the site for trachten.
Thanks.
