Rudy Meinl Rotary Bass Trumpet
This horn is not mine, but it sure is interesting. I would love to get a chance to try one.

Re: Rudy Meinl Rotary Bass Trumpet
Yeah, I thought for sure it would go for $1K or so the first time around, but I guess not everyone shares my affection for mystery horns.
A later model on the Rudolf Meinl web site goes by `Bb Tenor "bass trumpet"' (their quotes), and if I remember right they also offer a rotary valve `real' bass trumpet, i.e., straight bore. Maybe you could call this a "bass cornet"?

So I took a chance and bought this.
I'm hoping it's close enough to a traditional bass trumpet sound, even though some of the tubing seems a little oversized compared to say an Alexander bass trumpet. Some web sources want to call it a bass flugelhorn, although I'm not sure how accurate that description is. I'm pretty certain Rudolf Meinl wouldn't call it that.
I've basically been looking for a small, easily carried horn, so I can ride my bike to do some teaching in the local area, as I don't want to take my Edwards bass trombone out on the road. Plus I enjoy the bass trumpet sound.
I'll let you know how it pans out.

Bill, there is a URL.LoyalTubist wrote:I sure wish the posters on the eBay section would post the URL where we can see the merchandise and not just a photograph.

As often as you complain about this, I wonder if there is something up with your Mac or browser where you can't see some URLs. Most of the time when you say there is not a URL, there is one.Eric B wrote:

Maybe not, though I got the impression he doesn't really know for sure what to call it. Cerveny sells a similar instrument as "bass trumpet". I'm betting it's close enough to a bass trumpet, but with a sweeter sound. Real curious to hear. The Bone Ranger wrote:I'm hoping it's close enough to a traditional bass trumpet sound, even though some of the tubing seems a little oversized compared to say an Alexander bass trumpet. Andrew,
Please share your impression once the Rudy arrives. I didn't need this one but I wanted it. I think you got a great deal.

The Rudy arrived a few days ago.
It's in good condition; a few stuck tuning slides, but otherwise great.
It is very much a bass trumpet in sound, with the right mouthpiece. It came with a small mouthpiece with a mark on it that I don't recognise, in unplated brass. The rim size is smaller than a Bach 12C trombone mouthpiece, and the cup is very much trumpet-proportioned, particularly the small throat. Being predominantly a bass trombone player, I don't have too many small shank pieces around, but the one that comes with it seems to have the best sound.
Intonation is ok considering I can't move the 1st or 2nd valve slide yet....
Overall, I'm very happy with it. It's a little bigger than some bass trumpets, but still with a trumpet-like sound. If I could find something with a bigger rim I'd be more comfortable, but I won't do it at the expense of sound, so maybe once Doug Elliott is up and running next year, I'll order a small cup/throat with a Bach 3-ish rim.
I'll take it to a seasoned bass trumpet player (my teacher) in a few weeks for an experienced opinion.

I don't think you understand me. I don't mean a picture URL, I mean an eBay URL. If it's not on eBay, don't post it here.
It's not the right URL. Is it on eBay? Show me an eBay URL!
This would be very appreciated. I don't want to see the pictures you have of it anywhere else. (Someone else help me here!)
Someone might actually buy what you have if you do it this way.
Much appreciation if you do!!!

The simple url looks bogus to me. You don't have to post the entire address to be seen...
You can do it like this.
This works just fine. And it's the whole address.
