Capriccio da Camera

Post by Tom Beck II »

Hi all, :D
about four weeks I inquired on this tuba solo with brass quintet composed in 1976 by Christer sDanielsson . It finally came in today from Elkin Music International in Asheville, North Carolina who was able to get it from the publisher, Nordiska Musikforlaget, Stockholm.
The piece is written for 2 Bb trumpets, French Horn in F, Two Trombones (the 2nd trombone part can be played on a tenor trombone). The solo tuba part can comfortably be played on any pitched tuba as the lowest note is F an octave below the staff and the highest is F above the staff with sthe tesitura running between C below and C above. The key signature remains in 3 flats throughout but tempos, time signatures, styles, rhythms and tonalities vary throughout the 6 minutes and 45 seconds suggested non-stop duration which will keep both ensemble and listeners on their toes.
Stokholm Philharmonic Brassensemble recorded the work on: Swedish society Discofil SLT 33254.
My cost, including Priority Mail from North Carolina was $73.45.
Have fun,
Tom Beck II :D

Is this a question? I played this piece last year as part of my junior recital, and it is one of the most fun to play tuba solos I've ever encountered, and audiences absolutely love it. I heard it when I was first starting out with the tuba on Michael Lind's CD "The Virtuoso Tuba" and always dreamed of playing it myself someday. It is an awesome solo, but yes, I do remember it was not cheap.

Hi Alex, I brought this topic up as about four weeks ago I inquired on this net as to how to get it and after finding the U.
S. distributor for the music I indicated I would advise when it came in. As indicated, it did, and I advised.
That's all. Glad you too found from experience that it is a profound performance piece. I look forward to having the same experience with it this Spring.
Have fun.

Wow, after hearing about the expense and trouble you guys went through to get this piece, I liked to know if any of you would mind just photocopying it and mailing it to me...

Ahhhh, Scott, Welcome to market economy! Now wouldn't it be bad to have all of us, once we found out who made their livelihood by producing and getting this fine product to us, just get copies of it from me. Besides being unethical, which seems to have little influence any more, I think it is also illegal, which also has lost its influence on conduct these days.
Verily I say unto you, if you want it, now that you know how to get it, just buy it!
Thanks,
Tom Beck II
