4 valve BBb tubas?

Post by SinNawlins »

what about something like the Schiller 4V BBb at http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... :IT&ih=013
to me it looks like a Miraphone 186 imitation. Does anyone have any experience with one of these? I am in the same boat looking for my first BBb tuba. I could afford a new 186 but my wife would kill me. So I am also looking for something affordable that plays well and in tune. Nice used BBb Miraphones are hard to find.

What about all the Amati, Allora, Dallyan and Schiller & other inexpensive tubas??? And then there are the intermediate priced ones like Cerveny and St Petersburg. Are any of these tubas worth owning for enjoyment?

And why are BBb tubas so scarce and CCa nd F tubas seem more plentiful.

People tend to hang on to 'em.

Run, do not walk, away from any Chinese-made horn, except for a Dalyan or Allora. Overall you're much better off buying a used horn of proven quality. How about this http://www.dillonmusic.com/HeleoCart/Pr ... 70394.aspx

Probably just seems that way since you are looking for a BBb right now. This site probably has a higher percentage of CC and F horns for sale vs. the market as a whole.

 Maybe you could stop using the 4th valve in the corps and get a 3 valve tuba!

I paid $1900 for the Allora AA186 (with case) played it for a year, had it chem cleaned and sold it for $1800 so I'd say I got my money out of it. It really was a good horn for the money and I'd still have it had I not decided to go the Eb route.
